If you ask me what to do on the French Riviera in March, I’ll tell you it’s one of the best months to discover the region from a different perspective. Spring slowly settles in, the light changes, the days grow longer, and the atmosphere becomes more peaceful. You can feel the season starting again — but without the summer crowds.
In March, temperatures are generally mild, between 14 and 18°C (57–64°F) in the afternoon. It’s the ideal climate for exploring without suffering from the heat. You can walk for hours, sit on a terrace, and enjoy the sea at a relaxed pace. The Promenade des Anglais in Nice becomes a favorite strolling spot. Locals jog along the waterfront, families take leisurely walks, and visitors take time to admire the Baie des Anges under an almost golden light.
I always recommend starting the day in the Old Town of Nice: colorful alleyways, pastel shutters, laundry hanging from windows… Then head to the Cours Saleya market, where stalls begin to fill with early spring produce. It’s the perfect place to taste local specialties: socca, tapenade, cheeses from the countryside, and the first strawberries of the season.
March is also an ideal time to explore the coastline between Antibes and Cannes. The beaches are quiet, the sea a deep blue, and the sunsets spectacular. It’s a more authentic, breathable, almost intimate French Riviera.
